Pen Llyn Lusitano and Riding Stables

Pen Llyn Lusitano Stud and Riding Centre is the leading Lusitano stud in the UK. Started by Marcia Pendlebury, and her husband Keith, over 40 years ago the centre began breeding Lusitanos in 1994 with the introduction of their foundation stallion, Hilario by Marcia's daughter Janine. Janine has worked with some of the best British and Portuguese trainers including Olympic and world dressage Champion Charlotte Dujardin. Janine is renowned in her field for her training skills and extensive knowledge of the Lusitano Breed.One of her stallions  Uivador Da Broa has achieved fantastic success winning the Champion Male at The international Festival of the Lusitano in 2008 and then winning UK Champion of Champions 2008.  Uivador has received 2 gold medals and in addition to these honours has now been awarded the prestigious Recommended **** studhorse status by the APSL which is only awarded to the highest quality stallions that the APSL recommend for breeding. Several of his progeny have been consistently successful in the showring winning male and female championships and medals. Some of his youngstock have also been graded very highly.

Uivador, bred by Manuel Travares Veiga, is the first stallion in the UK to be given this status and is available at stud by AI, frozen and chilled semen (available from Twemlows Stallion AI services). For details please contact Janine to discuss your requirements .

We offer Classical Dressage Lessons, courses and holidays, giving you the opportunity to ride classically trained horses and some of the best examples of the Lusitano and Spanish breed. Our horses are trained in all the lateral movements including Shoulders In, Leg Yield, Halfpass and Traveres, the high school movements such as Piaffe, Passage and Spanish Walk and are capable of Flying Changes  and Tempi changes. Hacks and trekking.

Ride through quiet country lanes enjoying our beautiful scenery or go trekking up Garn Fadryn mountain and experience the magnificent panoramic views from Snowdonia to If you are really keen, come on a stable day. Bring a packed lunch, have a lesson and a hack and help out with the horses.

We also offer exciting Beach rides for experienced riders, stopping at a local inn for refreshments en route.

As well as Classical Lessons we offer lessons on our well schooled horses and ponies suitable for complete beginners and novices up to experienced riders covering basic dressage and show jumping. Riding Holidays- Short or Long Breaks

Week or Weekend breaks are available with us either with your own horse or riding a selection of ours or both! They are tailored to suit your requirements, you can do as much or a little riding as you want. Our riding holidays are for any level of experience. We have facilities for Dressage, Jumping, Hacking, Schooling and general Horse Management (tuition is inclusive). You can spend all day at the stables if you wish. The rest of your time *can* be spent helping to manage the horses. As you are on holiday we are not over-strict, our aim is for you and your horse to enjoy yourselves.

Pen Llyn Stables are situated in the centre of the beautiful Llyn Peninsula. This area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers more than Pen Llyn so even if they're not interested in horses why not bring the family to enjoy the beaches, water sports, fishing, golfing and many other activities available in the area.

Classical Dressage Display Team Stunning horses dancing to music. The Pen-Llyn Classical Dressage Team are available to give displays and clinics at Agricultural Shows, Riding Clubs, Country Fairs etc., or any event you are planning. Two or Four Horse performances provide an exciting spectacle rarely seen in the UK.

Janine Pendlebury was born into riding and training horses in the family business and has studied in Portugal under the finest trainers to perfect her art. She has developed this and along with trained pupils performs an exciting spectacle to grab audience attention. All the classical movements performed with precision to music. Livery and Training

We take in grass, part and full time stabled liveries, incorporating training or exercising as required, whether you want your horse breaking, kept fit or trained up to a high school level. Training is done in a matter of weeks for a condensed period, or months if preferred. We have a number of clients who have kept their horses with us for many years

Although we specialize in breeding Lusitanos we apply all the same methods used to train them on other breeds such as, Andalusians, Friesian, Lipizzaners, Cobs and even Percherons and Shires.
